Burnout can gradually creep up on us and take us by surprise. Before you get an unpleasant wake up call, take a moment to check in with your current situation and familiarise yourself with some of the more common signs of burnout:

  • Increased frustration
  • Fatigue
  • A sense of hopelessness
  • Low engagement
  • Lack of sleep
  • Increased anxiety
  • Muscle tension
  • Headaches

My go to when I feel overwhelmed is to journal my thoughts and write down a to-do list. The visualisation helps me see what is actually realistic for me to get done in a day. The rest can wait. Now that I can recognise the warning signs, I exercise self compassion and prioritise rest when I feel that everything is becoming too much.
