An interesting recent finding for me was that principles of positive psychology date all the way back to the time of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.
Aristotle put forward the principle that a shift in attitude and developing good, healthy habits can lead to a happier life. This takes practice and perseverance and therefore requires energy of the mind.
This does not mean that we should always maintain an optimistic, happy outlook at all times. We have a range of human emotions that are all equally valid and suffering is a vital part of our journey. However, I feel that the practice and perseverance principle that Aristotle put forward could help us build resilience for times of adversity.
